COLLEGES racial, religious and ethnic groups. The college offers undergraduate programs in Elementary Education and Special Education. In Elementary Education and Special Education, a student must complete an additional academic year of study which may lead to the Master of Educa- tion degree prior to recommendation for initial teacher certification. In the various areas of sec- ondary education, a student must complete an undergraduate degree from the College of Lib- eral Arts and Sciences and complete an addi- tional academic year of study in the College of Education which leads to the Master of Educa- tion degree prior to recommendation for initial teacher certification. Listed below are the specific minimum requirements for admission to the undergradu- ate programs in the College of Education. It should be understood, however, that admission to the college is selective. The college is unable to guarantee a place to every applicant who sat- isfies the minimum requirements. The two major criteria for admission are the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the grade point average (GPA). The college establishes minimum GPA require- ments for each program which reflect the likeli- hood the student will meet graduate school admission requirements. These GPA require- ments vary with the number of applicants, availability of space and the number of faculty in a given program. A student's entire record, including educational objectives, pattern of courses previously completed, quality of previ- ous academic records and test data will be con- sidered when evaluating an application for admission. Priority for admission will be given to those applicants whose potential on the basis of their record indicates the greatest likelihood of success in the program requested. A student who does not meet all of the requirements for admission may petition the College of Education for admission. A limited number of students may be admitted through this procedure. A petition for admission cannot be considered unless a student submits an American College Test score or a Scholastic Aptitude Test score as required by State Board Rule for admission to a teacher education pro- gram. Students from community colleges must also have completed CLAST and an A.A. degree. All Students To be considered for admission to the col- lege, students may be guided by the new uni- versity benchmark standards which are set to assist UF students recognize when they meet requirements for normal progress. During the junior and senior years in these programs, students must maintain an average of 3.00 or better GPA and score 1000 or better on the GRE. Community college students must also present satisfactory CLAST score and an A.A. degree. Because applicants to the PROTEACH Ele- mentary and Special Education programs are required to complete both a B.A.E. degree and either an M.E.D. or postbaccalaureate program as well as meet state-mandated standardized test score levels and GPA levels, admission is considered when 60-64 semester hours have been completed. The chart which follows provides guidance for normal progress toward admission for UF students. Cumulative Hrs.
