Specialization may be in advertising, in- ternational communication, journalism, mass com- munication, public relations, research, mass com- munication teaching, or telecommunication. Prerequisite for admission is an approved bachelor's degree in a communication field. The stu- dent who does not hold a degree in a field pre- paratory to the specialization or who does not have preparation deemed adequate in the social sciences and humanities will be required to take courses beyond the minimal degree requirements as de- termined by the graduate division of the college. For U.S. citizens, these requirements will include Ameri- can history, federal government, state and local gov- ernment, introductory economics, and statistics. Each student must follow curricular regulations of the college in effect at the time of his or her entrance to the program. He or she must also adhere to a de- gree plan approved by the student's adviser and the college's graduate committee. The student must sub- mit this plan in the first term of study and must obtain approval of any changes desired. To continue enrollment in the program, a student must maintain a grade average of 3.0 in all work un- dertaken.
