Earnings of those individuals under 20 were mainly below $500 (Table 87). Of those individuals between 20 and 50 years of age, 16 percent reported earnings below $500 compared with 32 percent of those 50 and over. On the other hand, individuals between 20 and 50 years of age reported incomes in the higher levels more frequently than did those individuals over 50 years of age. Distribution of individuals reporting nonfarm employment income by income levels and education is shown in Table 88. The proportions of individ- uals reporting earnings of less than $500 decreased steadily as the educational level of the individual increased. Although there was no consistent associa- tion between specific educational levels and proportions reporting incomes in the higher levels, income tended to increase with education. Among those indi- viduals with less than 5 years of schooling, less than 8 percent reported
