The length of time worked by the male population averaged nearly twice as much as that worked by the female population, 8.8 months to 4.5 months. Work on other farms in the survey area is mainly seasonal in character; it is related to the harvesting of cotton and tobacco crops. Less than 10 per- cent of the 270 individuals reporting farm wage work were employed full time (Table 27). Almost 60 percent were employed less than 9 weeks. Two-fifths of
