- 101 - 2.3 Provisions for Adequate Plant, Equipment, and Supplies in Local Programs. Determination of the required teaching facilities shall be based upon the number of students admitted to each class, the number of classes entering each year, the number of times classes meet weekly, and the possibility of changes in enrollment. 2.31 Training Provided in Schools. County boards of public instruction may establish classes for practical nurse training in local vocational schools, using federal, state, or local funds which are made available for this purpose. All classes shall meet the requirements for physical facilities as established by the Florida State Board of Nursing and the State Board for Vocational Education. 2.32 Training Provided in Hospitals or Other Health Agencies. Hospitals and other health agencies in which clinical experience for students is to be secured shall show evidence of their ability to provide an adequate number and variety of patients for clinical experience in each of the basic clinical services, namely, medical nursing, surgical nursing, obstetric nursing, and pediatric nursing. The ability of the hospital to provide clinical experience will be determined primarily by the average daily patient census, the variety of more common illness conditions represented, the number of students to receive experience, and the adequacy of the staff of professional and non- professional personnel available at all times to ensure safe care of patients. All such institutions and agencies shall be approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing and the State Board for Vocational Education. 2.4 Preparatory Training of Practical Nurses, 2.41 Purpose. The purpose of the training program is to assist qualified individuals to become competent practitioners of practical nursing, to assure graduates of such schools of their eligibility for admission to the licensing examination for practical nurses, and to ensure that they will be adequately prepared to safely serve the public in the capacity of licensed practical nurses. 2.42 Requirements for Enrollment. Adult students shall have completed at least two years of high school or its equiva- lent. All students shall be at least 18 years of age at the time they complete the course. They shall be in good physical and mental health and of good moral character.
