LIFE AND WORK OF DR. A. A. MURPHREE termination of a great executive. He was at once the mediator be- tween student and professor and the leader of the vast activity which enters into the building and maintenance of a great educational insti- tution. Every Saturday evening he spent in reading his Bible. This he considered as much a part of his life as his daily duties at the Uni- versity of Florida. He was teacher of the Men's Bible class of the First Baptist church of Gainesville. His faith and his belief never swerved, and many were brought into the fold of Christ through his simple and forceful teaching. That which was mortal of Dr. Murphree moves no more among his fellows, but the greater and immortal q live with us forever. His influence in the the scene of his beloved tasks, and his spirit as it advances on and on into the years. qualities of this man will University will dwell on will guide the University His influence is the firm foundation upon which the budding institution will flower forth into one of America's greatest schools. Ever in the glory of its greatness the name of Dr. Albert Alexander Murphree will shine. As we mourn his passing from earthly existence a trumpet sounds calling upon us to build unto his memory a shrine in our hearts and with our hands to erect some fitting memorial that posterity may see and know, and in seeing and knowing, follow. -GAINESVILLE SUN. THAT GREAT CHRISTIAN GENTLEMAN AND SCHOLAR WE ALL LOVED SO WELL 3 T was a heavy saddening of the Yuletide in many hearts thruout j this community when the news was flashed forth of the unex- pected death of one of the men who was held highest and dearest in local esteem, Dr. A. A. Murphree, one of the truly greatest Floridians of all time. Dr. Murphree had meant much to Tallahassee; he had done much for many of our best citizens. His good accomplished cannot be measured nor his loss be replaced. His record is long and our retrospection of it shows his stride was ever forward, Dr. Mur- phree's work was not finished. He was but in his prime. Tribute to his erudition and his extraordinary ability, as well as strong Christian personality, was paid Dr. Murphree by no less a person than the Hon.
