TRIBUTES FROM ASSOCIATES AND FRIENDS 149 We know how kindly and constructive was his criticism, how sincere, and generous was his praise. We, of his faculty, loved Dr. Murphree, and somehow one feels, that the way he drew men to him and won their deep and lasting affection is, after all, the very best measure of his real greatness. Admiration, respect, appreciation, even understanding, many men have won. Dr. Murphree won all these in rich and abundant meas- ure; but more, he won the real and sincere love of his entire faculty. To each of us his death brought a deep sense of personal loss. Some- thing has gone out of each of our lives that can not be replaced. We have lost a great president, a wise leader; but as individuals, I know I voice the sentiments of each member of our faculty, above all we have lost a sincere and unselfish friend. Let us honor his memory by pledging anew a deeper loyalty to the fine things in life which he strove to promote and an unselfish service to his great University, which will advance its best interests and help to make his dreams for its future come true! -J. mILER .LEAKE. HIS EVERLASTING MONUMENT. O THE memory Of the late Albert A. Murphree this spae is af- fectionately and respectfully dedicated. "All men were drawn unto him", for so permeated with love was his personality that good will and helpfulness to his fellow men radiated from him. For this reason he was able to direct without command and to chasten with affection. Few lives have better illustrated the parable of the talents. He was faithful to his task, alert to increasing responsibilities and chang- ing conditions and always deeply conscious of the worth-while char- acter of the work intrusted to him. He has directed the University of Florida through the crucial period of its history and so well has he succeeded in rallying the citizens of the state to the support of their university that its future is assured. The University will go forward to greater things as an ever-living monument to the work of this man. -C. W. CRANDAnL.
