130 LIFE AND WORK OF DR. A. A. MURPHREE true in the case of children, whom she dearly loved. She seemed always glad of an opportunity to be around little ones." Dr. and Mrs. Murphree filled the role of host and hostess to guests at the Murphree household with a graciousness and hospitality that deepened the affection their friends held for them. Mrs. Murphree was considered an excellent hostess, with that fine sense of propriety and culture, with that grace and pleasantry of manner that were characteristically hers. She loved to entertain, but on account of her health she did less of it than she might have done had she been physically stronger. The education of his own children Dr. Murphree consid- ered of paramount importance. Each of the four was gradu- ated from the Gainesville High School. The interest Alberta displayed in music and her undoubted talent in voice prompted her parents to plan voice culture as an outstanding part of her higher education. In this work she has distinguished herself as a director of musical drama. Alberta has also done effective work as director of the choir of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Gainesville. Martha, second daughter, was graduated from the Florida State College for Women in 1925. Her talent for writing has been encouraged, and in high school she wrote a play which was produced with marked success in Gainesville. Alberta was married in 1925 to Mr. David G. Worth of West Palm Beach. Martha was married in 1927 to Mr. Rob- ert George Wallace of Daytona Beach. John A. H., elder of the two boys, is to be graduated in law at the 1928 commencement of the University of Florida. He completed the academic course three years ago, and his law degree will round out seven years of higher training.
