South Carolina [Mr. Smith] are detained from the Senate on account of illness

 The Senator from Alabama [Mr. Bankhead] is paired on this question with
 the Senator from Oklahoma [Mr. Gore]. If present and voting, the Senator
 from Alabama would vote "yea", and the Senator from Oklahoma would vote
 "nay." I am advised that if present the Senator from Maryland [Mr. Tydings]
 would vote "nay."

 So the branch of Mr. Robinson's amendment with respect to the Florida ship
 canal to the committee amendment was agreed to.
