Senator Couraxa Will this have anything to do with the $272,000,000 project which we were considering this morning in the Commerce Committee? General MAXRHAM. As to this particular Sardis Reservoir, we have advanced to this position, where we have taken options on all of the lands at Sardis under authority of the President There has been allotted $1,000,000 by the President, presumptively upon the acquiring of those options at levels satisfactory to the Secretary of War. The cost of those options appears to us to be quite reasonable. Senator TOWNSEND. What do they amount to? General MAaKHAM. Approximately $1,600,000. I might say that those options very closely approximate the appraisals of the Agriculture Department experts whom we have secured to make their appraisals, and to that extent they are satisfactory to us. Senator CARc. Are they all prosperous farmers on this land? General MAnXHAM. I think so. I have never been in that territory myself, but I am told it is fair land growing cotton and corn, and the usual crops of the kind that are grown in northern Mississippi.
