rip "Ma v xm 9Iblam i THE KRAUSE FAMILY JO2N HENRY KRAUSE, a sturdy German pioneer, who was born It Saxony, Germany, settled in Tampa in 1855, in his early mai- hood. He was by occupation a blacksmith and wheelwright engaged in those lines of business upon his arrival here. "Henry Krause," as he was called by those who knew htm intimately, was an excellent workman, never having been san passed in his lines by any other. His wagons, buggies andl other vehicles soon became famous for their good qualities all over this southern section of the state. His shop was for many years located on the northeast corner of Zack and I Franklin streets, now occupied by the building that was first erected for the Citizens Bank and Trust Company. His reai- dence stood where the young Een's Christian Association build- ing is now situated. Mr. Krause later. engagd in the mercantile business, his store being situated on the southeast corner of the same two streets named above, on the corner just south of his. blacksmith shop and wagon works. Upon the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate army and served with credit to the end of the struggle. By his industry and frugality, his stainless integrity and honesty, John Henry Krausa accumulated a handsome pro- perty, and was up to the time of his death one of the most highly esteemed citizens of Tampa. Mr. Krause married first Mary 2. Dagenhardt, who was born at Palatka, in this state, of German parents, they be- ing natives of Dresden, Saxony. The parents of Mrs. Krausei came to Tampa in 1848. There were born to John Henry Krause and Mary, his wife, eight children, six of whom reached maturity, and font of whom are now living in Tampa. In the order of their ages these children are as follows: Henrietta, who married John T. Gunn, and is the mother of three children--John Krause, unmarried; Helen, the wife of Paul C. Lindley, of North Carolina, and Jack Arbid, un- married. Mary, who married Joseph A. .1, Grable. They have two children, both sons, named Joseph A. 14, jr. and James Stewv art. John Henry, unmarried. Annie, who married Robert Nunez, and died several. year ago, leaving two children, a boy and girl, named, respect ly, Robert and Mary. A third child, Annie, died. Julia, who died in early childhood.
