SUMMARY Program 1. A project paper for the proposed Latin American project was completed and submitted to AID/Washington for review. All negotia- tions and administrative matters pertaining to the Bangladesh project were finalized and the project was officially started with the trans- fer of the project leader to his post in Dacca. Continuity was main- tained in the Philippine program as one project leader completed his tour of duty and his replacement took over. One staff member partici- pated in a joint FAO, West German (GTZ), U. S. (AID/W) formulation mission to five African countries to develop means to coordinate bird control research activities by national and international organizations. 2. Project staff or consultants spent 435 man-days in 24 coun- tries at the request of USAID missions, foreign governments, or international organizations. Activities included specific research studies, assisting field personnel in ongoing research, project review, supervision and program development, attendance at interna- tional meetings, and liaison with other research organizations. Training and communication 3. Nineteen staff members participated in 18 professional meetings and presented 21 professional papers. Twenty-six staff members and cooperators authored 21 professional publications. 4. The Denver Center hosted 26 international visitors from 16 countries and responded to numerous requests for technical information on vertebrate pest control. Two research trainees from the Sudan spent several weeks at the Center reviewing literature, and initiating their graduate research projects. Both are undertaking graduate training programs at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, as AID participant trainees. 5. One staff member participated in a 7-day training seminar on vampire bat control in Asuncion, Paraguay. Two staff members were invited to participate in international conferences on vertebrate pests, including the OECD/FAO/WHO Expert Consultation meeting on rodent problems in Paris, France, and an International Discussion Conference on Rodent Control in Kuwait City, Kuwait. 6. A 1-week training program was held at the Bangladesh Agri- cultural Research Institute (BARI) in preparation for a nationwide vertebrate pest survey. Trainees included officers and staff members
