Grain sorghum is an important human food crop in many parts of the world. It is also a crop that is damaged extensively by vertebrate pests (primarily birds). The research described here is a relatively novel approach to the solution of a vertebrate pest problem. But we are hopeful that a combination of this type of evaluation and selec- tive plant breeding programs may result in development of a sorghum that is both resistant to bird damage and high in nutritional value.
