and at last, in the reign of Charles II., a law was
passed which put an end to slavery in England for
ever. From that time our peasantry, have gone on
with their useful labours, ploughing, sowing, and
gathering the harvests, living hard and on small
wages, but sharing the rights and privileges of free
men in common with the rest of the nation.
