SINGULAR AFFAIR.-At Massat, in France, on the 20th Sept., two females, mother and daughter, were each delivered of a male child within two minutes of each other. The babies were put into one cradle whilst the mothers were attended to, and the result was an impossibility to distinguish which was the uncle and which the nephew. Some of our "Old Citizens," perhaps, may recollect the circumstance:- AN INHOSPITABLE JAILOR.-A few years ago, the good people of Apalachicola set themselves about building a Jail and a Church ; they were both finished about the same time, but the jail was filled before the other building. Three of the prisoners, not having a partiality for a life of such retirement, contrived to loosen a stone in the wall and made their escape. After wandering about for a few days and finding no very agreeable ac- commodations, as the social system had not pro. gressed so far southward, they concluded to return to their old quarters. On presenting themselves before the jailor, they offered to surrender at dis- cretion and expressed their sorrow for their elope- ment. "I can't help it," was the answer, you thought fit to break out and now you may stiy out, you don't get in here again, I tell you." 03j- The last letters from London say that the project for the re-establishment of the credit of Illiniai ig lsa.sy to 6 fail 5.. 7-G,. fo O",rmioa.io.- ers, who are now there, will net, it is said, suc- ceed in the objects of their visit. The Philadelphia Inquirer of the 24th, speak- ing of the Millerite encampment formed near that city, says: The scene at times was frightful. The shouts and screams of the women and children, together with the groans, lamentations, and exclamations of the men were calculated to excite feelings of deep commisseration for the wretched objects of delusion. Yesterday morning two little children were found in the encampment, perfectly cold, stiff and dead. Many grown persons were also offeringg severely, and the persons who re:-ide in t, neighborhood absolutely forced some of the fe"les into their houses, with the object of sa- vingo teir lives. Much misery and poverty will no dout be the result of this delusion. 1 Ti Mayor of St. Johns, N.
