164 FER VENT IN SPIRIT, SER VING THE LORD. told him to go to a street called Straight, to a certain house, and inquire for one Saul; to go in and touch his eyes and give him back his sight. The Christians had heard of Saul's coming, and of the letters he had brought; and this disciple was afraid and said, I have heard of this man, and how much evil he hath done to thy saints." But the Lord said, Behold, he prayeth;" and told the disciple that He had chosen Saul to bear His name before Jews, Gentiles, and kings, and that He would show him how great things he must suffer for the name of Christ. The disciple went, and Saul's sight was restored and he was baptized. In Damascus, where he expected to rule and destroy, he began a life of service and suffering for Christ's sake. His name was soon changed to Paul, and he preached Christ in synagogues streets, prisons, on shipboard, the market-place, the seashore, to the poor, the rich, kings, and prisoners. He suffered hunger, cold, weariness, shipwreck, scourging, chains, stoning, but he took pleasure in dis- tresses for Christ's sake. When he was an old man, in a chilly dungeon, he wrote, The time of my departure is at hand. . Hence- forth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing."
