102 THE BOOK FOi UND. said, "What writing is that I see on a stone?" They answered, That is the grave of a man of God who fore- told what you have done !" Years before, there was a king who built an altar and made two idol calves of gold ; and a prophet said to him, A child shall be born, Josiah by name; and nen's bones shall be burnt upon the altar." This boy-king was the one the prophet foretold, and this was the grave of that same prophet. The king when he heard it, said, Let no man move his bones." So his grave was not disturbed. When Josiah was twenty-six years old, and had de- stroyed the wicked worship, he began to build again the temple which King Solomon had built nearly four hun- dred years before. Josiah found it neglected and almost ruined, but he called for money and carpenters and masons to repair it. While they were at work they found a book, and brought it to the king. It was a roll of writing on skin, the sacred copy of the law given by Moses, which we have in our Bibles now. It was read to the king, and when he was reminded of the laws they had all broken, and of the punishment threatened to those who forgot or disobeyed them, he was in great sorrow. He sent to a prophetess to know what would be done to them. She said the punishment should not come in his lifetime, be- cause his heart was tender, and because he was so sorry for their neglect of God.
