Born: 17 September 1918 Boonesville, Mississippi. Walthal had completed two years of high school, lived in Lake Mary and worked as a laborer at the time he enlisted in the Headquarters Detachment, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment 28 January 1937. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 1st Class 25 November 1940. Later he was assigned to the 30TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 3RD INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Sergeant at the time of his death. His next of kin included Irene Walthall, mother, Lake Mary, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 24 April 1944 Parano, Italy. 30th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division (The 3rd Division's long commitment to the Anzio Beachhead was very costly. Even at times when no major battles took place, units of the division were subjected to German artillery barrages and infantry assaults. Squad-sized units of the 3rd were also used daily in patrol and harrassing attacks against German positions. It was during such a period that Walthall was killed). WARDEN, Alexander HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, 1ST BATTALION, 265TH COAST ARTILLERY (Duval County) Born: 4 August 1919 Jacksonville, Florida. Warden was a high school graduate living in Jacksonville working for Southern Bell earning $25 per week at the time he enlisted in Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 265th Coast Artillery 26 January 1938. He was indicted into federal service 6 January 1941. He attended flight school at South Plains Army Air Base, Lubbock, Texas and was a Flight Officer at the time of his death. His next of kin included Mary Warden, mother, Jacksonville, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 24 March 1945. (Records do not so indicate but it is believed Warden was part of the flight crew for a Air Transport Squadron carrying American 17th Airborne Division troops as part of the Rhine River assault at Wesel, Germany 24 March 1945).
