WAAS, Jack Martin HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, 124TH INFANTRY (Duval County) Born: 19 December 1917 Jacksonville, Florida. Waas had completed one year of high school, lived in Jacksonville when he first enlisted in Company F, 124th Infantry Regiment, 22 July 1935. Later, he transferred to Headquarters Company, completed more schooling and was working as a lineman earning $28.50 per week when he re-enlisted in 1940. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940. Later, he received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and was assigned to the 121ST INFANTRY REGIMENT, 8TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a 1st Lieutenant at the time of his death. His next of kin included Ethel Waas, mother, Jacksonville, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 17 September 1944 Brest, Brittany, France. 121st Infantry Regiment 8th Infantry Division (Following its engagements in the hedgerow country of Normandy, the 8th Division was dispatched to the Brittany Peninsula. The 121st Infantry was detached to assist in the attack on Dinard, sealing the Germans in St. Malo the rejoined the Division for the assault on the strong German defenses of Brest. Waas was killed during the associated battle for Crozon, on the Crozon Peninsula). WALLACE, Walter Morris BATTERY C, 116TH FIELD ARTILLERY (Hillsborough County) Wallace had completed two years of high school and lived in Tampa when he first enlisted in Battery C, 116th Field Artillery 1 July 1938. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 504TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Lillie Wallace, mother, Tampa, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 5 February 1944, Nettuno, Italy.
