TAPLEY, Arthur Lee Jr. COMPANY E, 124TH INFANTRY (Suwanee County) Born: 2 June 1922 Bineville, Gerogia. Tapley had completed four years of grammar school, lived in Live Oak and worked as a truck driver earning $6 per week at the time he enlisted in Company E, 124th Infantry Regiment 25 September 1940. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940 as a Private. He was later assigned to the 15TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 3RD INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Ethel Tapley, mother, Live Oak, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 24 March 1944, Isola Della, Italy. 15th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division (The 3rd Division had been heavily engaged in offensive-defensive activity in the Anzio Beachhead. There was no major battle the day Tapley died but there was continual patrol action and artillery fire against Allied positions throughout the day). TAYLOR, John Simmons COMPANY L, 124TH INFANTRY (Manatee-Hardee County) Born: 25 July 1921 Arcadia, Florida. Taylor had completed eight years of grammar school, lived in Ona and worked as a farmer when he enlisted in Company L, 124th Infantry Regiment 12 November 1940. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 157TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 45TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Alice Taylor, mother, Ona, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 14 February 1945 Conya, Italy. (This was almost certainly 1944 as the division was in Germany in 1945. The 1944 date would coincide with the battles of the Anzio Beachhead).
