He was inducted into federal service 26 November 1940. He was later assigned to the 157TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 45TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Mrs. Lillian Stegall, mother, Washington, DC.
