Prevatt had completed grammar school and lived in Pinemount working as a farmer earning $10 per week when he enlisted in Company E, 124th Infantry Regiment 9 October 1940. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 314TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 79TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Jennie Prevatt, mother, Pinemount, Florida.
