Persons had completed grammar school, lived in Orlando and worked as an office clerk when he enlisted in Company K, 124th Infantry Regiment 14 June 1939. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 167TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 31ST INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. His next of kin included Helen Persons, mother, Orlando, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION; 15 May 1945 Mindanao, Philippine Islands. 167th Infantry Regiment 31st Infantry Division (The 31st Division was committed to destroying Japanese forces in central Mindanao, Philippine Islands during the spring and summer of 1945. In April and May, the 167th attacked up the Sayre Highway, the fighting for the Colgan Woods and along the Talamo Trail where Persons was killed). PETERSON, Noel Braxton COMPANY E, 124TH INFANTRY (Suwanee County) Born: 29 April 1908 Branford, Florida. Peterson was a high school graduate living in O'Brien and working as a carpenter earning $20 per week when he enlisted in Company E, 124th Infantry.Regiment 12 October 1940. He was Inducted into federal service 25 November 1940, released to state control in November 1941 and called back to active duty January 1942. Later, he was assigned to the 8TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death.
