NELSON, Laudies Ira Jr. BATTERY B, 116TH FIELD ARTILLERY (Hillsborough County) Born: 3 May 1919 Tampa, Florida. Nelson had completed two years of high school, lived in Tampa and worked as a truck and tractor driver earning $19 per week when he enlisted in Battery B, 116th Field Artillery 26 June 1940. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940. Later he was assigned to the 712TH TANK DESTROYER BATTALION. He was a Corporal at the time of his death. His next of kin included Mr. and Mrs. L.I. Nelson, parents, Tampa, Florida. DIED OF WOUNDS; 19 September 1944, Germany. 712th Tank Destroyer Battalion (It is not known exactly where Nelson received the wounds from which he died but it is thought to have been in the severe conflict for river bridgeheads and other objectives associated with the Lorraine Campaign of the U.S. Third Army). NETTLES, George Monroe SERVICE COMPANY, 124TH INFANTRY (St. Johns County) Born: 22 February 1922 Smoaks, South Carolina. Nettles had completed grammar school, lived in St. Augustine and worked as a plumber earning $12 per week when he enlisted in Service Company, 124th Infantry Regiment. He was inducted into federal service as a Sergeant 25 November 1940. Later he was assigned to the 119TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 30TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Staff Sergeant at the time of his death. His next of kin included Lois Nettles, ne Mrs. Lois Wainwright, sister of St. Augustine, Florida and four other sisters and two brothers of various locations. KILLED IN ACTION; (Two dates given In the records); 27 August and 3 September 1944, France.
