Merrill had completed one year of high school, lived in Miami and worked for Western Union for $15 per week at the time he enlisted in Company A, 124th Infantry Regiment 27 June 1939. He was inducted into federal service as a Corporal25 November 1940. Later he was assigned to the 108TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 40TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Captain at the time of his death. KILLED IN ACTION; 27 March 1945, Philippine Islands. 108th Infantry Regiment 40th Infantry Division (The 40th Division was heavily engaged in the central Luzon Campaign, especially near the Bamban Hills. Later, the 108th was detached from the division and sent to Leyte Island to assist in clearing out the remaining Japanese from the hills in the southern part of the island and from Masbate Island offshore. Michelson had completed two years of high school, lived in Daytona and worked as a grocery clerk at the time of his enlistment in Battery D, 265th Coast Artillery 22 October 1940. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 6 January 1941. Later he was assigned to the 850TH BOMB SQUADRON, 801ST BOMB GROUP. He was a 1st Lieutenant at the time of his death.
