KAUFMAN, Herbert Corbett COMPANY M, 124TH INFANTRY (Leon County) Born: 12 December 1912 Tallahassee, Florida. Kaufman was a high school graduate living in Tallahassee when he first enlisted in Company M, 124th Infantry Regiment 17 February 1931. He advanced through the ranks, receiving a commission as 2nd Lieutenant 12 December 1939. He was the recipient of both the Florida Service and State Active Duty medals. Kaufman was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 504TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION. He was a Captain at the time of his death.
