JOHNSON, Robert Nesbitt COMPANY K, 124TH INFANTRY (Orange County) Born: 10 February 1918 Orlando, Florida. Johnson was field forman for a central Florida dairy when he first enlisted in Company K, 124th Infantry Regiment 19 June 1936. Johnson received the Florida Service Medal. He was inducted into federal service as a 2nd Lieutenant 25 November 1940. Later, he was assigned to the 504TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT, 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION. He was a Captain at the time of his death. KILLED IN ACTION; 16 December 1943, Mt. Sammuero, Italy. 504th Parachute Infantry 82nd Airborne Division (Following the Sicilian Campaign, the 82nd became involved in the assault on Southern Italy. After the capture of Naples by the Allies, the Germans established an extremely powerful defensive Winter Line in the mountains north of the city. These defenses would not be completely breached until the late spring of 1944. Johnson was killed leading his men during an attack on Hill 687, a key feature of the German Winter Line). JONES, Joseph A. HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, 265TH COAST ARTILLERY (Duval County) Born: 2 September 1919 Screven, Georgia. Jones lived in Jacksonville and worked as a mail clerk at the time of his enlistment in Headquarters Battery, 265th Coast Artillery 4 October 1939. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 1st Class 6 January 1941. Later, he served with the 450TH BOMB SQUADRON, 322ND BOMB GROUP. He was a 1st Lieutenant at the time of his death.
