HOGAN, James C. COMPANY D, 124TH INFANTRY (Seminole County) Born: 29 July 1914 Fitzgerald, Georgia. Hogan lived in Sanford and enlisted in Company D, 124th Infantry Regiment 9 July 1939. He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940 as a Private. Later, he was assigned to the 180TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 45TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Private 1st Class at the time of his death. KILLED IN ACTION; 16 August 1944, Ste. Maxime, France. 180th Infantry Regiment 45th Infantry Division (The 45th had been heavily engaged in the Italian Campaign from 1943 until the invasion of Southern France, Operation Dragoon, for which the division was part of the initial assault force. It was landed at Ste. Maxime on 15 August and for the next two days, fought hard to secure the beachhead and clear out the defending Germans. It was during this battle Hogan was killed). HOWARD, Green Van COMPANY E, 124TH INFANTRY (Suwanee County) Born: 23 June 1919 McAlpine, Florida. Howard had completed three and one half years of high school, worked as a farmer and lived in Live Oak at the time he first enlisted in Company E, 124th Infantry Regiment 23 September 1936. (He had been a football star with the local high school team) He was inducted into federal service 25 November 1940 as a Private. Later, he was assigned to the 119TH INFNATRY REGIMENT, 30TH INFANTRY DIVISION. He was a Staff Sergeant at the time of his death. His next of kin included Mr. and Mrs. P.M. Howard, parents, of McAlpine, Florida and five sisters and two brothers of various locations. KILLED IN ACTION; 8 July 1944, St. Lo, Normandy, France.
