His next of kin included Mrs. F.M. Herring, wife, Mamie Herring, mother, both of St. Augustine, two sisters and three brothers of various locations. KILLED IN ACTION; 24 November 1944, Saales, France. 7th Infantry Regiment 3rd infantry Division (During October and November of 1944, the 3rd Division was employed against German positions in Northeastern France. In mid November, the Division captured the area around Clairefontain-St. Michel and led the assault through the Vosges Mountains, gateway to the key city of Strasbourg.
