CROFT, Earl Bryon BATTERY C, 116TH FIELD ARTILLERY (Hillsborough County) Born: 18 January 1922 Savannah, Georgia. Croft had completed two years of high school, lived in Tampa and worked as a salesman earning $10 per week when he enlisted in Battery C, 116th Field Artillery 6 November 1940. He was inducted into federal service as a Private 25 November 1940. Later he was assigned to the 757TH TANK BATTALION. He was a Technician 4th Class at the time of his death. KILLED IN ACTION; 22 April 1945, Decima, Italy. (Allied forces were engaged in strong and successful attacks against German positions south of the Po Reiver in northern Italy during the days including and immediately proceeding that of Croft's death). CURRAN, George David BATTERY A, 265TH COAST ARTILLERY (Duval County) Born: 15 June 1919 Atlanta, Georgia. Curran was a high school graduate, lived in Jacksonville and earned $20 per week as a truck driver/auto mechanic at the time he enlisted in Battery A, 265th Coast Artillery 5 January 1941. He was inducted into federal service 6 January 1941. Later, he was assigned to the 19TH BOMB SQUADRON. He was a Private at the time of his death. His next of kin i-ncluded Frances Curran, mother, Jacksonville, Florida. KILLED IN ACTION 15 February 1942, Southwest Pacific/Philipine Islands area. 19th Bomb Squadron (The 19th flew B-26 medium bombers and had just arrived in the war zone during the earliest days of the war in the Pacific when Curran was killed).
