CHAPMAN, Arthur Edward COMPANY B, 124TH INFANTRY (Dade County) Born: 27 January 1919 Miami, Florida. Chapman had completed one year of high school, had experience in construction and as a stock clerk and lived in Miami when he first enlisted in Company B, 124th Infantry Regiment, 21 September 1937. He was inducted into federal service as a Corporal 25 November 1940. He was later assigned to the 368TH BOMB SQUADRON, 306TH BOMB GROUP and was a Staff Sergeant at the time of his death. KILLED IN ACTION; 9 October 1942, Northern France. 306th Bomb Group (The 306th flew B-17 heavy bombers and was one of the first groups to arrive in England to initiate daylight strategic bombing raids against targets in Occupied Europe. Barely a month after his arrival, Chapman was killed in the largest raid to date; a one hundred bomber attack against the Factories and engineering works of the Compagnie de Fiver and Ateliers d'Hellemmer and the rail yards in and around Lille, France). CHESSER, Evan Hughes HEADQUARTERS BATTERY 265TH COAST ARTILLERY (Duval County) Born: 2 June 1921 Jacksonville, Florida. Chesser had completed one year of high school, lived in Jacksonville and worked as a clerk earning $18 per week when he enlisted in the Headquarters Battery, 265th Coast Artillery 15 October 1940. He was inducted into federal service 6 January 1941. He was later assigned to the 63RD BOMB SQUADRON and was a Captain at the time of his death. His next of kin included Mayo Chesser, wife, Texas City, Texas, Nora Chesser, mother, and William Chesser, brother, both of Jacksonville, Florida.
