After learning what to look and listen for in the field, students went on a bird amble with Anna Layton. Lions Club flag ceremony at the square Friday, 8 a.m. The Blountstown Lions Club is having their third annual Flag Ceremony to honor all who have given their lives for their country. Prayer will be given by Glenn Kimbrel, speaker will be Winston Deason, reading of the names of our heroes, Drew Peacock, unfurling the flags, Laddie Williams; Buddy Smith, Harvey Grantham and Ken Shepherd. Saluting of each flag provided by Amvets, presenting of flowers, Post 231, Richard Waterman, rifle salute, American Everyone enjoyed a won- derful time as the Blountstown Library hosted the ARTS with a program, From Flutes to Fancy. Visual Artist, Paulette Perlman (above), demonstrated her "whimsical" approach to painting and had an interac- tive piece the audience was invited to work on. Refreshments were served then everyone gathered in the courtyard for a program by Paul McAuliffe (left) who played on his collection of 20 wooden flutes explaining the ethnic origins of each. This family friendly event is one in a series of free cultur- al evenings celebrating an appreciation of the ARTS. Memorial Day ceremony at the Calhoun Courthouse American Legion Post 272 located in Blountstown and VFW Post 12010 plans a Memorial Day Program for Monday, May 31, at 9 a.m. CST at the Calhoun County Courthouse. For 142 years, Americans have gathered on Memorial Day to honor our fallen heroes. We honor America's broken hearts, the hearts that were stilled in the cause of freedom, and the broken hearts of the loved ones left behind. As we honor their lives and their sacrifice, they live on in our memories. And in the hope that they died for - that somewhere, someday, today's children, and the children of tomorrow, will live in peace. The seating is very limit- ed.
