After 20-0 win over Chattahoochee in play Teeny Mite Tigers fall to St. Joe in champi The Calhoun County Teeny Mites ended their reg- ular season with a 6-0 record! This sent them to the playoffs facing Chattahoochee on November 4th for a chance to play in the Superbowl. They pulled it off with a win of 20-0. Their next mission was Port St. Joe on November Slth playing on their field. The Tigers held the'. lead at half-time by 6 points, but by the 3rd Quarter, Port St. Joe had scored a touchdown and got a two point conversion. The Tigers fought hard to get the next touchdown and were inches and seconds away, but ran out of time. These kids poured their heart and soul into this sea- son and we are so proud of them. The parents of our team would like to thank Coaches Lee Brown, Rick Johnson, and Chris O'Bryan for their dedication, hard work, and many, many hours spent practicing and developing this phenomenal team. Main St., Blountstown, FL' 674-5041 674-2555 Public vs. private- BHS Principal Keith Summers was appointed last year to serve on the legisla- tive body of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and says the issue has been a heated one among members. "The FHSAA is not the problem," Summers remarks. "FHSAA Connis-.ioiier John Stewxart oga e t.: the representative assembly in January of 2006 a very comprehensive new rule on students transferring from one school to another after their ninth grade year. Part of that was, they'd have to play on the junior \ar-sity level for one year. There are like 10 exceptions to the rule that still respected school choice that are matters that are important to the legisla-- ture. The.public schools over-7 whelmingly voted for it. The private schools also voted in favor of it and that included a representative from Trinity Catholic who voted for it. Now, there's a small' vocal minority and I feel it's com- ing from the private school and home school sector that feels it is unfair and they went to the state legislature. The legislature set up a task force and they met three or four times. It was made up of people for and against it. They met in the Tampa/Clearwater area, but people from North Florida attended the meetings. Basically what happened, the task force has asked the FHSAA to rescind that bylaw - even though a large majori- ty supported it. The bylaw has now been set aside." Following Friday night's scene and others over the years in nearly every sport - Summers is ready to take an aggressive stance to get the rules changed and level the BBSNTIG, NESH / "A. oV-. Al Lawson, and Governor-elect Charlie Crist - and let them know how you feel about this. Send a copy of the letter to me' and I'll take them to the riex-t FHSAA board of directors meeting in January. I'd love nothing more than to have 10 or 12 stacks of letters " Superintendent Mary' Sue Neves is also fed up and is taking action. She contacted Bill Montford. a Calhoun County native who serves as CEO of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, about the matter. At her request. he is organizing 'a meeting of, the school superintendents around the state to strategrze about solving this problem. "He said he received a lot of phone calls from the gener- al public in Calhoun County after the ballgame," Neves tells The County Record. What bothers Neves most is the message students are, 'receiving when they are forced to play unevenly matched games. "We tell kids if they work hard and keep up academics, they've got a great chance of winning state. And that's not even realistic anymore. We've got to change this. There's no way we can compete with these private funded schools." Contact your legislators about the public vs. private school issue: Rep.
