The County Record, NOVEMBER 29, 2006, Page 2 Dear Editor, I would like to congratu- late the Blountstown High School Forestry team on their recent national champi- onship in Indianapolis, Indiana in October. I would also like to congratulate the BHS girls Golf team for their runner up finish in the dis- trict meet. This was our best finish ever in golf. The BHS volleyball team for their first ever trip to the final four in Lakeland earlier this month and the BHS football team for completing their third straight undefeated regular season and advancing to the state semi finals. These are just a few of the good things happening at BHS. Since the completion of the volleyball and football seasons I have been asked several questions, Why do we have to play the private schools?, Does the FHSAA really care?, and What' can we do? We play the private schools because their stu- dent population is similar to ours. For us at this'time they are members of our 2A clas- sification so from a total pop- ulation. Does the FHSAA really care? Yes, they do, it's staff is made up of former school superintendents, principals, and athletic direc- tors. In 'January 2006 Commissioner Dr. John Stewart proposed to the FHSAA Representative Assembly a comprehensive but fair bylaw governing transferring students from one school to another. I was a member of this assembly and voted for the bylaw with an overwhelming number of both private and public dele- gates. Even the representa- tive from Trinity Catholic was in favor of this bylaw and voted for it. Unfortunately the legislature set it aside. What can we do? Write your legislator and the new Governor Elect. Marti Coley is our representative in the House of Representatives and Al Lawson is our State Senator. Recently Charlie Crist was elected Governor. Tell them how you feel about The un level plaiing s-iirface that exists and what .you observed first hand. Ask them to reinstate the bylaw which was passed by a large majority. Also send me a let- ter at BHS that I may carry them to the next Board of Directors meeting in January to encourage Dr. Stewait to, keep up the good fight to level the playing field for all Florida High School athletes. Sincerely, Keith Summers, Principal Blountstown High School Dear Editor, I would like to commend our football team for their efforts this football season. I know that alot of people did not expect them to go this far, but they never gave up and got themselves back in the playoffs, again. They played their hearts out every Friday night. This past Friday night was no exception, they were in it every second of the clock. I am so proud of them for play- ing hard till the end of the game and holding their heads high because they knew they had given their all Friday night. Our "home grown" boys did a great job against a "hand picked" team. Give me "home grown" any Friday night, they play as a team and not individuals. Coach Jordan, you have come in here and continued the tradition of Tiger football. Can't wait till next season. To #5 and #10, you have made your parents very proud. We have watched you for 12 years play football together and it has been the best years of our lives. You have blessed our lives more than you can imagine. For the fans in Blountstown, what can be said, we have the best fans in the state of Florida. There is nothing like getting up on Monday morning only to remember Friday night is coming soon. Until next year, GO TIGERS. Lisa Cox Dear Editor, I am writing this letter to commend the job Coach Greg Jordan and the Blountstown Tigers did this season. I can't believe that anyone thought that after losing over 30 seniors the past two sea- sons that the Tigers would go 12-1 this year. That is solely because of the outstanding job Coach Jordan and his coaches did with this team. They obviously played togeth- er very well all year and were well prepared for their oppo- nents all season. I was fortunate enough to get to watch them play last week against Trinity Catholic and although it did not turn out like everyone would have liked, the kids never quit and played extremely hard. I just wanted Coach Jordan and the 2006 Tigers to know that I, for one, was very proud of them this sea- son. Three perfect seasons in a row do not come along every day and the people of Blountstown and Calhoun County should be very' proud to call themselves a Tiger. THank you, Blountstown, for the years of great memo- ries you gave me and best of luck in the years to come. Congratulations, Greg and GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
