Biography:
Ton y Stewart started his Winston Cup career
with a bang, as he qualified his No. 20 Home
Depot Pontiac in second place in his first Cup
race, the 1999 Daytona 500. Stewart's 2005
season was one of his most successful years
in the Nextel Cup. He won five races, including
the Allstate 400 at The Brickyard, a race that
Stewart said he would give up his champi-
onship to win, and took with it the #1 seed
headed towards NASCAR's Chase for the
Nextel Cup 10-race playoff. On November 20,
Stewart won his second NASCAR Nextel Cup
Championship, joining Jeff Gordon and Terry
Labonte as the only active drivers to have won
multiple championships. This year, Stewart
missed the cut to qualify for the Chase for the
Nextel Cup by 16 points. He can, at best, fin-
ish 11th in the final points standings, his worst
finish ever, as he has been in the top 10 in all
of his previous 7 seasons.



NASCAR announced last Tuesday it has pur-
chased CASCAR (Canadian Association for
Stock Car Racing) and has formed a new rac-
ing series. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
involves a multi year sponsorship from
Canadian Tire and will kick off in May 2007.
The 10 to 12-race schedule will run from May to
October. The series will use drivers and teams
from the, former CASCAR Series. NASCAR
said the official schedule, points fund and
tracks would be announced at a later date.
