Locals 'Step Up' and exercise '' Calhoun County joined Step Up, Florida! Thursday with a community event at Magnolia Square in downtown 'Blountstown. Throughout the month of February, every county across the state is taking part in this effort to remind citizenss to get active and healthy by taking advantage of the great physical activity opportunities that Florida has to .offer. Last Wednesday afternoon, the Step Up, Florida! torch and flag were passed from Gulf County to Calhoun ,iCounty. Walkers gathered at Magnolia Square at 9 a.m. to make laps and take home a free Step Up, Florida! t-shirt. iAfter the event, horseback riders from Calhoun County delivered the torch and flag to the Jackson County line. ;Festivities were held in Liberty County Monday with a community event at the Liberty County High School track and 513-mile run. John O. Agwunobi, M.D., M.B.A., M.P.H., Florida's Department of Health Secretary, was scheduled to :'oin a run at the Liberty Wilderness Youth Camp. The woman said she held the door as Kever put his hand through the window and tried to unlock it. When he couldn't get it open, she said he began hitting her with the ax handle on her right arm, shoulder, and abdomen, allegedly striking her 10 to 15 times. She said he then set pieces of paper on fire and began tossing them through the window. After she started yelling for help, she said he fled the scene. When authorities caught up with Kever, he allegedly admitted to busting out the window, but denied ever hitting his girlfriend. Following an investigation, a warrant was issued for Kever's arrest and he was taken into custody Friday He cleared the racks five times with four defensive rebounds and an offensive one. Rounding out the scoring was Noah Byler and Josh Mcintosh who chalked up four points. Byler was credited with an offen- sive board while McIntosh had two boards and two steals. Coach Sidney. Granger did a good job molding these guys into a team that finished the season with a 15-6 record (7-2 at home and 8-4 on the road), including four wins against 2A schools. It was a team that consisted of an eighth grader, eight freshmen, and three sophomores. Usually ,the starting lineup consisted of Ti-ur freshmen and a ,'-'plnhrnirl: Even more remarkable, these young 'Cats put together two six game winning streaks and the last streak included four road wins. (850) 595-8300. February 16, 2005 Resurfacing on Hwy. 71 will begin week of Feb. 21 Resurfacing work begins the week of February 21 on SR 71, south of Blountstown. The project extends from south of CR 275 to north of Sherry Avenue. Anderson Columbia Company, Inc. was awarded the 150 day contract that includes milling and resur- facing the 9.6 mile corridor. Roadway signage, pavement markings, drainage upgrades, safety improvements, and paved shoulders are also included in the $2.5 million construction contract. Motorists are reminded to use caution while traveling through the construction zone and that speeding violations double when workers are present. Also, travel- ers are reminded that lane clo- sures will be necessary to com- plete resurfacing the roadway; please modify your schedule to minimize travel delays.
