Linda's Little People, a day care for children, recently gathered goods for Food Bank's Thanksgiving effort because when Linda's son lost the contents of his refrigerator during the storm, Food Bank came to the rescue. Brewer's son Les tells me that before Dad left he was able to abscond about 60 pounds of vitamins to take with him (vitamins are in high demand in the rural areas). Can you remember saying to your kids, "get the lead out of your feet?" David Green told me a story that gives new meaning to that phrase. A friend of his, an ex Marine and retired Eastern Air Lines agent, arrived home one night after an unsuccess- ful fishing trip to the inter- coastal waterway. He threw his new cast net over the clothesline and went to bed. The next morning over coffee, he remembered forgetting to wash the salt out of the net. He went outside and was shocked to see his brand new cast net torn to shreds. Then he noticed his prize Doberman, with her belly dragging the ground. That was one not-so-smart dog or a hungry one, and one expensive cast net. The ex Marine was $500 lighter, the dog 13 pounds lighter after a trip to the vet. I rely on you to help fill this column.
