 'Fools'
 Plant City Entertainment will end its run of
Neil Simon's "Fools" Nov. 19-20 in the Hills-
borough Community College auditorium,
1206 Park Road. Show time is 8 p.m.
 Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for chil-
dren and students through the 12th grade.

 Jr. Miss Plant City
 The Jr. Elite Women's Club of Plant City
seeks contestants for its 21st annual Jr. Miss
Plant City pageant.
 Girls ages 10 to 12 may apply to participate
in the pageant slated for Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Dr. Martin Luther King Recreation Center.
 The application deadline is Dec. 20. To obtain

the 1800s jargon?)
 James Jones, retired as principal
of Plant City High School, said the
room was once a typing class.
(Though I typed more than 100
words per minute under the eagle
eye of the teacher, I am still trying
to forget those "pre-White Out"
days with the old manual Royals
and Underwoods. Oh, how easy it
was to transpose letters and Miss
Not-So-Gentle Lambertson stood
over us with a ruler!)
 Steve Tracy was telling me about
one of the old buildings downtown
currently being renovated.'Under-
neath the old paint is a sign, hardly
legible, that says something like,
"Arthur Tickle's Tackle Shop." I
think it was a bicycle shop, too.
Wouldn't be too funny if those
words got transposed?



 Everyone is welcome in the
Class of '51. Nancy Mclean says the
Plant City High School Class of
1951 has a luncheon the second
Tuesday of every month at the
Orange Blossom Tea Room.
 They are a close-knit class and
welcome classes before and after
1951 to join them. Their Christmas
party will be Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

 Jason and family were here last
week from Dallas. Sorry my photo
didn't turn out, but if you want to
know what Jason is going to look
like when he's a grandpa, it's not
hard to figure out.



 Dr. Dolores Lowe has moved her
family practice to an office near
the hospital.
 The girls started setting up office
last week, as Dolores and husband,
Larry, were in Iowa where Dolores'
father is ill (our prayers are with
the family). The official opening
will be Nov. 22 at 1601 W. Reynolds
St., Suite 203. For more

 Sometimes you surprise the kids
and sometimes the tables are turned.
 It was a double surprise for the
Powell family recently. Dallas and
Milene Powell had a surprise 30th
birthday party at Bella Rosa Italian
Restaurant in Plant City for their
daughter, Melissa. Before the night
was over, their son, Matthew,
surprised everyone by proposing
to fellow firefighter/paramedic
Christina Lynn Hartmann,
daughter of Walt and Shelly
Hartmann of Merritt Island.
 Future bride and Matt, who
attended Mississippi State Univer-
sity and graduated from Indian
River Community College with

 I consider myself a good flag-
waving American, but it's only
been since my children left home
that I have taken a real interest in
American war history. I just
finished the "Pentagon Papers,"
and as Veterans Day approached, I
was talking to my friend, pilot
Jamie Vemer, who has delivered
troops to Kuwait.
. "I wonder what made my father,
a P-51 pilot in WWII, put himself in
harm's way over Japan?" I asked.
Somehow a mother has trouble
with that.
 Jamie offered to take me up in his
Skybolt, an aerobatic biplane that
will happily do a 180 mph dive. I
accepted. Of course, I loved it, just
as my father did when training in
his Stearman over Florida.
 But I realized there is a big
difference in having an adventure
and risking your life as a true
patriot. As a young man, my father
did both. As a mother, I still would
not want my son or daughters put
in harm's way, but thank God, our
children grow up and make their
own decisions or our country
would not enjoy the freedoms we
have (like taking a "tail-dragger"
adventure now and then). God
bless our veterans and our soldiers
wherever they may be.
