Day Full Of History I really enjoyed the East Hillsborough Historical Society's 27th annual Pioneer Day this year and talked to several people with connec- tions not only to Plant City, but the Everglades. Joyce Payne was telling me that her grandfather, D.M. Griffin, was a traveling dentist and occasionally took his equipment to the Everglades. He might not have been so good at recognizing faces, but sure recognized his work. One woman came in, opened her mouth wide, and he took a look and said, "Get up, I'm not working on you - you never paid me for the last work I did." (Joyce's husband is the Rev. Bob Payne). I acted as hostess in the BETTY BRIGGS Columnist 1914 High School community center's Heritage Room, which is now furnished as a boudoir from the turn of the century. ENGAGEMENTS Heaton-Swindle Brad and Wanda Heaton announce the engagement of their daughter, Lori D'Ann Heaton, to Jonathan Laurence Swindle. He is the son of Larry and Debbie Swindle of Dover. The bride-elect is a 1998 graduate of Durant High School, and is employed by Rooms to Go in Seffner. The prospective groom is a 1998 graduate of Plant City High School and attended Hillsborough Community College. He is employed with Energy Services Inc., a family business, as a truck driver and warehouse operator. He is also a partner in the family cattle operation. Baldwin recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
