If you made your New Year's resolution to lose weight you have been at it for 2 months now and may be searching for new ideas. I started making this soup many years during one of my many attempts to slim down. It is a low calo- rie, low fat, high fiber soup. It makes a yummy lunch or a filling snack and tastes good also. You just throw in the vegetables you and your family enjoy Any vegetable will do as long as it is not a starchy vegetable, example: potato,.beans or corn. I am not going to give many mea- surements because you just put in as much or as little as you like. .SLu. vegetabLe sou-p 1 diced onion 2-3 cloves garlic, minced sliced celery 1 TB olive oil (if you are re- ally serious use non-stick cooking spray) Large can V-8 juice (generic is fine) 2-3 chicken bouillon cubes Assorted vegetables (if you are in a hurry, use canned or frozen) Example: green cabbage, carrots, zucchini, squash, green beans, bell peppers, snow peas, spinach, sugar snap peas, tomatoes, mush- rooms Salt and pepper to taste 1-2 tsp dried basil - 1 tsp. dried oregano In a soup pot heat the olive oil (or spray the cooking spray) and cook the onion and celery over low heat un- til softened, about 5 minutes. The last minute add the gar- lic. Add your favorite vegeta- .bles, seasonings and bouil- lon cubes. Add V-8 juice un- til vegetables are covered. If you like thinner soup, add more juice. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer, cov- ered, about 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender. This soup is great reheated so if you take your lunch to work make enough to make. several quick, low calorie lunches. One cup is about 50 calories and it really helps you get your minimum daily requirement of vegetables. I went online to find some dieting tips to share with you. One that really stood out was to stretch out the time it takes to eat your meals. I always eat like I'm trying to win a race! It takes your brain about 20 minutes to get the signal your stom- ach is full. Another tip that hit home was that the "sam- ples" you take when testing the food you are cooking be- gin to add up. Also, the good- ies the kids don't finish DO have calories so don't clean their plates for them. If I kept a log of the stuff I put in my mouth without even thinking I have a feeling I .would be in for a nasty.sur- prise! I would love to hear from you. E-mail me any tips that have made your life easier. Your favorite recipe. Dieting tips or recipes. Is there something you would have loved to have known when you were first starting out? Is there something you did that you vowed never to do again? Drop me a line. Noth- ihg is too small. I will love hearing from you. We are all in the same boat. There will always be empty bellies and dirty dishes. Dust on the table and dirt on the floor. A little bit of humor and ad- vice can make the trip so much easier. Act im- mediately and instinctively Grab the attacker's hands and hold on tight so he can't punch you Use the wall. Bring one foot up as you lean back against the wall and kick hard to the at- tacker's stomach or groin. S As the attacker falls back let go of his hands. This is a very simple tech- nique that can quickly turn a scary situation around. Don't always expect one kick to do the job though. Sometimes the attacker can , take a hit, or you might miss the first time. So be ready to do more kicks, use both feet, knees, and don't forget your elbows. The key is to keep moving hard and fast. You can use the same elbow strikes that we have Discussed in prior articles. As always, there are other techniques that will also work to escape being pushed up against a wall. This particular move will work most of the time. However, if it doesn't you need to know some other techniques. Beginning the first Wednes- day in January Calvary deter- mined to "take back" Wednes- day evening "Prayer Meeting." We determined to make this an actual prayer service. While not an easy undertak- ing in our self-seeking and self-indulging generation, this corporate invitation for God to get involved is already pay- ing great dividends. Three things we are hearing for this year (on the positive side) is that God is sending three par- ticular seasons to His church (Eccle. 3:1,2). Season #1 is a season of Supernatural En- couragement (courage; strength; tenacity;) to His peo- ple. That is the current sea- son. Season #2 will the a sea- son of Restoration (taking back). This includes vision, . dreams, joy, peace, health, family, finances, etc. Season #3 will be a season of Signs, Wonders, and Miracles. This will come about as the result of the previous. These sea- sons must be entered into in Martial Arts Credentials: Larry Grade Science at Anderson Ele-i Taylor is a certified Fourth De- mentary School, is certified in gree Master Instructor of Tang Educational Leadership, has a Soo Do, an eight time Tang Soo Masters Degree in Elementary Do Champion, and is a judge at Education, and has National the Police Athletic League tour- Board Certification in Elemen- naments in Jacksonville, Fl. This is really God saying to us, "I want to get involved in your life and I am making Myself available, but you must do it according to My times and seasons." Of course, all this comes on the heels of prayer! Could you use some encouragement? How about restoration? These are things that God is providing right now. Even though they cannot be earned, they must be pursued and pressed into. That is what we are attempting to do at Calvary Temple. This is not about building a big church, promoting a certain religious denomination, f church politics, or demanding that you believe exactly as we do on all points of doctrine. IT IS about trying to be obedi- ent to God. Do you have a home church? Does your church preach a gospel of good news? Perhaps you are one of the 75% in Dixie who do not have a home church. If that is the case, why ndt consider visiting us at Cal- vary Temple. Sunday @ 10:30, Wednesday Prayer Meeting @ 7:00. No church is a perfect church and certainly Calvary makes no such claim. From the pulpit to the pew we see imperfection, but we serve a perfect God who has the abili- ty to used even that which is flawed to bring about His will. Come see us!
