The event brought a lot of community support. Horese riders, from many towns throughout Florida participated, with the farthest riders coming in from Tennessee. This fundraiser is held each year in order to give the , proceeds to Shands cancer Center'for.the many items and services needed for the local breast cancer pa- tients. The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund was provid- ed women in need.with practical kinds of assistance. For example, 'the fund supported a homeless' woman who underwent extensive breast cancer surgery and treatment with medications and transportation. It was able to assist another woman with dressing supplies for wound care related to her surgery It helps patients with combs, brushes, wigs, and other items if funds aren't readily available to them. The fund was also used to establish the beginnings of an audiotape li- brary The audiotapes are used as' an adjunct to chemotherapy and radiation treatments to help women cope with their treatment related fears and side-effects and support coping. The next annual event is going to be held at the Goethe State Forest Tidewater Trailhead on October 24, 269. 'Place this weekeiid date on your c5~idaii"r and plan on coming out for a fun-filled weekend for a very worthy benefit. The 2008 event raised $3,500.00 to go into the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund at the Shands Cancer Center.
