Ms. Sheila Walker was driving North on Highway 19 in the left turn lane preparing to turn onto NW 160th Street. A semi was headed South in the left lane of 19 at the time. Ms. Walker turned in front of the semi, but didn't realize tha. Another vehicle was travelling in'the right lane as her view was obstructed by the semi. She collided, head on, with Kristopher Strickland. Ms. Walker was ejected from the cab of her truck. Emergency workers transported both victims to Shands, where Ms. Walker was pronounced deceased. Mr. Strickland received was seriously injured in the collision, Neither he, nor Ms. Walker were wearing their safety belts. Three fenders bent in Cross City On Monday, June 23, Wilmer Phipps had parked his van in front of the Dixie County Advocate's office, and was waiting for one of his friends. Suddenly, he was pressed back against his seat as his van was pushed forward by another van that was parking behind him. His van skidded a few feet before bumping into the car that he was parked behind. According to the lady driving she was attempting to park behind Mr. Phipps' van when her gas pedal be- came stuck. All three vehicles involved only sustained minor dam- age. There were no injuries. I have the confidence and courage to make the changes necessary to remove disruptive and violent students. RELATIONSHIPS -Hire people who love children and want to make a difference in their lives. -Change will only take place if employees work together -TEAMWORK! -Utilize an existing space for a Superintendent's satellite office in Old Town with specific days and times I will be in the Old Town office for your travelling convenience. -Change the way we work with all agencies -county city prison, and sheriff's office. In a small county we must pull together and share resources. -I will represent Dixie County at the regional and state level in a manner that you would ap- prove. I will aggressively fight for our children and see that our County receives its fair share. ACADEMIC PROGRESS -Change and improve communications from the Administration to faculty staff and parents. -Increase the involvement of faculty and staff concerning selection of software programs, textbooks and major curriculum decisions, Input and evaluation from all concerned is impor- tant. -Expand dual enrollment and vocational offerings at Dixie County High School. Each child deserves every opportunity to be successful. -In these extremely difficult budget times, we must find ways to increase teacher and staff salaries. I have 18 years of day to. day experience in dealing with school finance on a regular basis and I am ready willing, and able to make the changes necessary to build a strong school system. -I believe quality facilities improve student performance. In my current role as Executive Di- rector of Support Services, I am aggressively pursuing special facilities funding for a new high school campus in Dixie County I strongly believe I can make this dream a reality if elect- ed as your Superintendent of Schools. -The Governor has forecast an additional 4% budget cut for all Florida school districts in November 2008.1 I will make changes and cuts at the administrative level while pro- tecting the teachers and students at all costs.
