The Reading First Office wanted to coiigraul.ate our Reading First Schools, which are Anderson Elementary School and Old Town Elementary School for meeting both goals over the past four years. The goals we had to meet are (1) increase the percentage of K-3 students reading at or, above grade level and (2) reduce the percentage of students with serious reading difficulties. Durini. the past four years, both of our elementary schools have increased the percentage of students reading at or above grade level, and decreased the percentage of students who are struggling to show progress with reading. The chart below shows our school at year one and now at year four, the reading is above grade level. The state average at year four is 61.03. At year four, Anderson Elementary School is 80.40% and Old Town Elementary School is 70.26%, both above the state average. At year four, you can see that the students at risk or struggling readers have been reduced to well below the state average of 19.15%. As a result, more students are meeting grade level expectations and fewer students have serious reading difficulties compared to four years ago. Congratulations on a job well done.
