It's known as the daily Telegraph, and among other things, it recently ran an article that was quite critical of the global warming cult. The Telegraph also pays a lot of attention to what's going on in this country, as opposed to so many outlets on the other side of the Atlantic who regard us as a lot of semi- literate Neanderthals. That in itself makes it a pretty good' read every now and then. Recently, the Telegraph published a list of who they considered to be the 100 most influential conservatives in America, and another naming their choice as the 100 most influential liberals. Their top pick in the conservative column was for- mer New York City Mayor and current front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination Rudy Giuliani. Right behind Rudy was General David Petraeus, followed by Matt Drudge, Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh. President George W. Bush was assigned number 21, his wife, Laura, number 59, and brother Jeb'number 86. Aside ftbm Rudy, former presidents and wannabes fared better in the liberal column, with Bill Clinton getting numero uno, Al Gore in second place, and Hillary bringing up third. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (right behind the vice- president in line of succession to the presidency) was fourth, Barack Obama number 6, John Edwards number 24,, a bit behind his wife, Elizabeth, who came in at 19. Michael Moore rated an impressive 7; and perhaps a bit of a surprise to some, California's Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was number 8. Oddly enough, Connecticut Senator Joe Liberman rated 47 in both the liberal and conservative categories. Ac- tually, he has sufficient credentials in both, so why not? Mary Matalin got a 36 in the conservative column; her husband, James Carville, a 74.among liberals. I'll bet they have some interesting discussions over the breakfast table. ' Besides Rush, clearly a good choice on the basis of being an influential conservative, commentators and jour- nalists to the right of political center included Laura Ingra- ham, Sean Hannity, William F. Buckley Jr., George Will, Michael Savage, Pat Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly Peggy Noonan, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and Charles Krauthammer, among others. And guess who got left out? And guess who spent considerable air time pouting? Why none other than Neal Boortz, in case you had any doubt. Neal really got his unmentionables in a wad when; he found out that a veritable who's who of conservative com- mentators made the cut, and he didn't. So naturally, he * trashed the daily Telegraph with remarks about how they probably have to print restaurant menus on the side to make ends meet. ' My guess would be that Neal's problem is not his sphere of influence, which is significant, but the fact that he is not really all that conservative. Oh, he comes down right- of-center on certain topics, but he consistently ridicules Christian conservatives on the social issues. Maybe that doesn't make him a liberal, but if it was left upto Neal, Boortz to define the conservative agenda, we might as well throw in the towel and let Hillary have it. In regards to last weeks response from a Fighting Bear Mom: Let me start out by saying the letter written con- cerning the youth football league was not written to judge anybody, it was not written because "one person" was disgruntle, it was written out of disappointment. And we all are very much aware of having to climb the ladder of experience to get to play sports, been there and done that. But this is where you don't have a clue of what was going on. First of all this child to had 3 years of experience this was not his first year, so for him to have to climb the lad- der of experience well he did that, but he didn't play no more this year then the 2 years before. He was lucky he got to play 3 minutes out of. every game. So if your child was, able to play ignore than that after 3 years then I guess you , should be grateful and of coarse you wouldn't feel the disappointment we all felt and your opinion would be far different than ours. A player is only as good as his coach will let him be. and it's a known fact behind every good player is a good coach pushing and teaching him to be the' best at what he does. How do they know what talent that kid really has if he don't get any game time playing. He can't get experience playing the game unless he. gets to" play the game. And I am speaking for all the kids that did- n't get to play much no matter what their experience was, because he was not the only one. And speaking from experience with my two children in sports it's all about the good players, the ones that can help make them win. That' is why "winning" seems to be the main focus. When at this age it should be about teaching them the game and to have fun doing it. And to make them want to come back next - year to learn more. If this child lacked in something in or- der to be a good player then that's the ones the coaches needed to spend time with at practice. That is what practice is suppose to be about. That is what the coach is there for to help build self-esteem, respect, motivation, ded- ication and teamwork and most of all how to play the game. No not all players get equal time playing depending on their position, but I would think that he would get to play more than 3 minutes out of every game the entire season. The experience don't come from the sidelines it comes from being in the game. Game time experience is far different than practice time experience. Them, playing against each other was one of the craziest things I have ever seen. Sure that had to be hard on' them. I didn't Name: LT Col. ('~~AuTrIh" OF F i Or see any other teams having to do that, but maybe I missed that along the way Maybe you and your child had a good year, maybe all the kids on your team got equal play time, if so I am really glad you and yours did not feel the disappointment we felt. Yes he will move up next year also, so that means less playing time don't it, but how less can you go than 3 to 4 minutes per game. Oh guess it will be not at all next year, that is really something to look forward to isn't it. That really motivates him to want to come back after 3 years of experience. But oh he didn't get any game time experience so guess that puts him out of it on game day Well I won't bother tb spend my money (sup- porting the league) to watch him stand on the sidelines un- til he gets some experience of which he won't get unless he plays the game. My point here is give all players equal playing t ime no matter the experience. To me it's a little different in this league football than being in school play- ing because they all have to pay to play As far as her packing her clothes and move back home and get in-' volved with the program. Yes we would love to have her home. But she is away at college getting an education. And if she was able to be here she would be right out there in the middle of it all giving all her support. You could count on it. As a matter of fact she would make a wonder- ful coach, she knows more about football than most men. And she is very mature and very intellegant. And until she does come home I am her eyes and ears here in her home town and especially when it comes to her nieces and nephews. Anid her information came from somebody that was here to support them. (me) It was not gossip and hear say it was fact. But we do appreciate your opinion because as you said we all have our own opinions and what she wrote was our opinion, glad you and your child had a good year. And I hope since he is moving up next year that you won't be disappointed if he don't get to play much since that is the way it works. We just hope for a better year next year for ALL the players, that they ALL get equal play time and they ALL learn how to play the game to the best of their ability. But most of all that they ALL have fun playing and that we ALL have the enjoyment of watching them. And congratulations to ALL the teams this year.
