Springhouse Quilters finished their quilt raffles on Saturday, November 11, during the Downhome Day and City of Trenton street sales. The night owls of the guild made a wall hanging, patriotic, hand embroidery, Angel Quilt and the Gillliam family donated a Double Wedding Ring quilt to the guild. Both quilts were given away last Saturday. The winner of the Angel Quilt was Ms. Ingram of Chiefland and the Double Wedding Ring quilt was won by Jeffery Stewart of Newberry. Both individuals were excited about winning and found it hard to believe they won. The year is fast coming to a close and Springhouse members are planning to finish the year with a couple of exciting events. One event will be their workshop this month which will be a sit and sew with a covered dish luncheon. Then, the first of December, the quilters will hold their annual Christmas party. Hostesses for the Christmas party are Jan Litzinger, Betty Willms and Anna Gilliam. Lois Scott, Publicity Kitty Valentine Wins Rabbit Show Poster Contest Kitty Valentine with her new "bunny". Several weeks ago Land Ranch Supply sponsored a poster contest for children ages 5-10. The poster had to reflect why they would like to show a rabbit in the upcoming 2006 Suwannee River Fair and Livestock Show. Kitty Valentine was named the winner of the contest. A total of four children entered the contest and each was presented with a show rabbit, courtesy of Pam Pate and Arialle Spencer. We would like to thank Pam and Arialle for their generous donation and support of our local youth. Congratulations to all the entrants... we will keep our fingers ' crossed that you do well at the Fair! Order early and help support this worthy cause. www.dcadvocate.net Levy County Quilt Museum Log Cabin Quilters met November 9"' at the Levy County Quilt Museum. Today was show day. Martha Asbell has finished a crocheted bedspread and what a beauty. It took her ten months to make and it goes to her daughter Joan. Alice Mae has finished an Umbrella Girl quilt top. She has made so many quilts since she started with us in October of 1983. If you have quilts, crafts of what have you please bring them in for us to hang. Be sure you have a tag, at least a 2x3 with your name, price or not for sale. These tags have to be large enough for people to see and please use a safety pin, no straight pins or staples. We take care of all the sales your tag is put in an envelope with your name on it and at the end of the show, we settle with you. We will also have food each day. Monday we will be going to St. Francis House with a load of what have you. About 80 stocking caps have been knitted for the homeless children. We have socks, underwear and so much more. Some times I say, but for the Grace of God, that would be me. Well we had a chicken dinner, baked pot pie, dressing, soup, okra, rice, salads, coconut pie, apple cake, pound cake, chocolate cake, etc. When we make mis- takes, we cannot turn the clock back and try again. O.40*4U.40*4.40o40404 040*40404040.*4.o, Deep-Fried Turkey 1 thawed turkey, up to 14 pounds Cajun marinade Be sure the turkey is completely thawed and free of excess water. Inject it with marinade. Cover the outside of the turkey with your favorite dry rub. Fill pot with oil to fill line. Bring oil to 400F. Place turkey horizontally, breast up, in bailing bas- ket. Wearing a long bar- becue mitt, slowly lower the basket with the turkey into the oil Cook for 3 min- utes per pound, and then add 5 minutes to total cooking time. Turkey may float before cooking time is complete. Continue cooking for total amount of time calculated. Example: cooking a 14-lb. turkey 3 minutes x 14 = 42 42 minutes + 5 = 47 minutes When the turkey is done, turn the appliance OFF and slowly remove the bas- ket. Use drain hook on bas- ket to attach basket to appliance body. Allow the turkey to drain and cool. Do not move fryer until oil has cooled. Recipe courtesy of Bruce Foods.
