This short workshop is designed to help homeowners learn how to best protect their homes from wildfire. Join us on Thursday, November 2, 2006 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Steinhatchee Community Center (1013 Riverside Dr. SE) for this free interactive workshop. Homeowners need to treat wildfires like any other potential disaster because over 101,000 acres burned throughout Florida this spring. Dry weather combined with debris left from recent hurricanes has created dangerous conditions in and around many of our communities. This unique event is designed to show homeowners in Taylor and Dixie Counties how to make their homes and communities safer from wildfires. Workshop topics will include: the wildland/urban interface, why homes burn, fire's natural role in Florida, conducting wildfire risk assessments, Firewise construction and landscaping, and the national Firewise Communities/USA program. All participants will receive free Firewise materials as well as a T Shirt. Refreshments will be served. Representatives from the Florida Division of Forestry will be on hand to discuss this important issue and to answer questions. To register, please call Christine Denny or Peter Colverson, Firewise Workshop Coordinators with Pandion Systems, at 888-372-4774 or register online at www.pandionsystems.com . Thanks, Thanks, Thanks! FYI The Dixie County Courthouse renovations have continued with the offices in the new addition being tweaked and a new heating system installed. The old Clever-Brooks diesel fired furnace (top picture) was installed in 1966 when the existing courthouse was built. Needless to say, it had become obsolete and costly. A computerized propane fired, Lochinvar furnace (bottom picture) was resenting installed, which will give the staff in the courthouse a nice warm and toasty winter, and save taxpayers money to boot!
