Tonight would have been a FAN-tas- tic season opener for the Madison County Cowboys, as powerhouse Inde- pendence High from North Carolina was scheduled to come to Madison for a gridiron battle that had ESPN and. the Sunshine .Network campaigning for coverage. Ultimately the opponents waived the televised coverage, but it was Hurricane Hanna that had the final word on the event and the word was. "Game Cancelled." Some estimates had expected atten- dance at 10,000, where standing-room- only cheers were sure to ignite the cur- rent 2A Champions. And while parents, coaches. and school administrators un- derstand that safety must come first, the players would probably have swam the Gulf and braved 200 MPH winds to get a shot at this showcase. Of course', the storm will pass and the Cowboys will get many more shots, just not tonight. Tough luck guys,. We're all hurting with you. I Recently the story was told of Denise, Crystal and Zori Resendiz of Cherry Lake and the Angel they found by tle side of the road. When they found her, Angel was lost, alone, frightened and dying. Taking her horhe, the Resendiz women washed her up, cleaned and fed 'her, showing one little Angel that not all. of humanity is cold hearted, neglectful and cruel. Those who heard the story of Angel and her journey should rest easier now, knowing that at last Angel has found a loving home, and is herself rest- ing at the end of where her wanderings began. Denise and her daughters, Crystal and Zori, have done foster care for the Thomasville, Ga. Humane Society for over a year. Fully prepared to rescue abandoned animals, none of the three. ladies were shocked to see yet another lit- tle fur person, drifting down the dirt and the illegal dumping that had piled up in recent years. Nearby resident Buddy Spradley has made it a personal crusade to get some constructive attention to the situation, so when a grave stone was crushed a week ago, exposing the underlying casket, he reached out again, this time to incoming County Commissioner for District 3, Renietta Parrish. What did shock them, however was the condition that their Angel was in from abuse and ne- glect at the hands of those who left her, appearantly to die. "Even for me, this was the most un- believable case I have ever seen. I can honestly say it doesn't, get any worse than this," Denise shared. It has been over a week now, going on two, and Angel's days have been long and arduous, but full of love. She has been to see Dr. Darren Baxley and, surgery was suggested, however, there are added concerns regarding anesthe- sia. She has her shots and is putting on weight. Angel's even starting to gain some of her fur back. Her family is amazed at her progress and that is just what the Resendizes are to her.... family. "She has fallen in love with my daughter and I think the feeling is mutu- al," Denise stated. "When Angel can't find her, she, sits and raises her head in the air and starts to howl and cry Need- less to say, she is probably never going to leave our home; I don't think Angel or Crystal could stand being apart."
