This country is the greatest place in the world to live. We have many freedoms that many countries don't have, such as freedom of speech, and most im- portantly, freedom of worship. Because of our veter- ans and the soldiers currently serving, we are guaran- teed these freedoms, They are our heroes. But serving in our churches, are our heroes of the faith. Pastors are the rock of the church. Just like serv- ing in the Armed Forces, it requires dedication and work. It an honorable service. Many pastors have ded- icated their life for the cause of Christ, serving in the ministry God called them. Serving as a pastor is not an easy job. The pastor's job is to look after the mem- bers of his congregation, visit the hospitals, nursing homes, sick members of the church, prepare sermons to preach three times a week, deal with church people and their problems and balance a family life among these many things. In my eyes, these people are he- roes. There are a lot of things that have to be done in the church that are not necessarily glamorous. When one enters the church, one really doesn't think about the grass being mowed, the floors vacu- umed or the bathrooms cleaned. Somebody had to sac- rifice their time to make sure the cleaning of the church was done. Many people have served in this'po- sition for many years, and their work seems to go un- noticed, but God sees everything and knows the heart of the person. These are the true heroes of the faith. Anyone who is faithful to the call, to God, and to the church, is a hero in my eyes. The Bible says ":4nd ye shall be hated of all men for my name s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved, Matthew 10:22. Though Christians will endure temptations and persecutions for His name's sake, it's nothing Jesus hasn't already conquered. As written in scriptures, it's not who starts the race, but he' who finishes. Church, hold on. Stand up for Christ no matter what cones your way. Be a HERO of the faith! Happenings At Madison First Baptist By Kristin Finney "Lord, take all I have to offer, I lay all of me at your altar." This Sunday we had the joy of welcoming two new members into not only our church family, but also the family of God. Anthony Sutton and Thomas Hall were both baptized and raised to walk in the newness of life. It is such a blessing to see the way God works in not only our lives but also in the lives of others. Following their baptisms the message through song was per- formed by Shelley Holbrook. who sang "Alabaster Box." In honor of our sermon topic Consider your Witness Wayne Conger shared with the congregation his person- al testimony Pastor Ferrell preached from Haggai 1:12. Upcoming events at the church include: A back-to- school pool party at the Beggs' home on August 9, as well as a Sunday school t e' a c h e r meeting/breakfast on August 10 at 8:30 a.m. Madison First's youth group also re- turned from their mission trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. They spent five days at the Southern Bap- tist Theological Sem- inary campus. There will be a full article as well as pictures from their trip in the Path of Faith on Wednesday August 13. Our service schedule is as follows: Wednesday-Youth and Adults meet at 6 p.m. Sunday-Sunday school begins, at 10 a.m. Morning worship begins at 11 a.m. Evening worship begins at 6 p.m. We hope to see you there! We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who prayed and supported our youth group during their trip. Knowing the amount of support there was at home was such a great blessing. Our prayers are extended to everyone across the county and the world. Whether you're dealing with the loss-of a loved one, an ill family member, or financial difficulty always know that God is in control. He will not put an obstacle in our paths that we can't overcome through him. God is with us when everyone else turns away, with him we are never alone.
