The 14U Babe Ruth All Star softball team from Madison County brought the big bats to last Saturday's District 4 tour- nament in Alachua. The team exploded for 30 runs in taking the best of three series, two games to one over the Bell All Stars. After drop- ping the tourney opener in a close 9-6 game, the Madison County girls easily won the second contest, 13-3. This forced a winner-take-all final, which Madison won, 11-1. In the championship contest, Alexis Sowell was the pitching star for the locals, throwing a strong game and al- lowing just one run. Venica Brown delivered the big hits, go- ing three for four with a home run and two doubles. The team was coached by Kelley Jenkins, Joe Morabito, and Tommy Garner. Team members were: Amanda Brown, Venica Brown, Brittaney Browning, Randi Lyn Floyd, Becky Garner, Caitlin Griffin, Emily Hentges, Karagan Hunter, Courtney Lipford, Lauren Maultsby, Kelsey McGriff, and Alexis Sowell.
