And he travelled on and on till he came to the city where Abraham’s relations lived. It was one evening that he reached it, and he rested a little while just outside the city, by a well that was there. Now the wells in those parts were places where many women would meet at this time in the day, for it was the custom to drive all the flocks down to the well about sunset, and give them water there, and draw water besides for themselves. So Abraham’s servant thought he would wait here and see if he could find some woman amongst them who might become Isaac’s wife. And while he waited, he prayed to God and said, ‘O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham. Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water : and let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say,
